Poetry

Her writing is imbued using a art & culture of Europe that she grew higher using. Once Graham burst on the scene in the early Eighties, a select few reviewers were astonished per originality & ambition of her function. Others were less impressed.

"In essence, she writes as a European of American extraction. The freshness of the rhythms is what struck me first," says Helen Vendler, A. Kingsley Porter University Prof, whose essays in Graham's poetry helped produce it accessible to the wider audience. "I read three of her poems in the American Poetry Review, and I thought, ‘What's happening here?’ It's like hearing a new sound, like hearing Shostakovich after Tchaikovsky." At once while great deal Western poetry was however influenced per confessional poetry of the 1950s & Sixties, or even motivated per politics of ethnic identity, Graham's departure from either autobiographical tale signaled the shift.

However, critic Lolita Clark understands little of that, & has stated, "They tell us that she teaches at Harvard. They don't say what. Let's hope it is something useful, like nuclear physics, molecular biology, or chiropody. Something hot like that. If it is English, or Creative Writing, god help the future teachers and writers of America." http://www.ralphmag.org/AA/jorie-graham.html
